Description
These fragments from a scrapbook document primarily Nora Frances Steele’s time spent in New York City during her clinical training as a nurse. Comprised of cards, photographs, notes, newspaper clippings, and various ephemera, the “scrapbook” provides a small window into the life of a nursing student at Skidmore College in the 1960s.
Local Note
Nora Frances Steele, Class of 1969, was a Nursing major from Rochester, NY. During her time at Skidmore and during her clinical work in New York City, Nora also managed to work for the “Skidmore News” in various capacities: Apprentice (1965); Reporter (1966); Nursing Correspondent (1966); Nursing Editor (1967); Co-Feature Editor (1968); Staff (1969). Upon graduation, she received her R.N. license and moved to North Carolina and later New Orleans for work. In 2019, Nora participated in “Compassionate Hands: Remembering the Skidmore College Department of Nursing” as part of the Skidmore Saratoga Memory Project, and her oral history can be found here.
