Description
This scrapbook documents Katie Natalie Straight’s “Junior” and “Senior” year at the Skidmore School of Arts, during which time she completed a two-year Domestic Science course. Comprised of programs, notes, dance cards, newspaper clippings, extensive ephemera and captioning, the scrapbook (or “Stunt Book” as she refers to it) captures the social life of a student during the early years of the Skidmore School of Arts. (Note: There are several references in the scrapbook to her friends: “Betty” [Elizabeth K. Wood]; “Erma” [Erma Baker]; “Esther” or “Ripples” [Esther M. Ripley]; “May” [May P. Tyrell]; and “Olive” [Olive Saunders], all of whom were fellow [Class of 1915] Domestic Science students.)
Local Note
Katie Natalie Straight, Class of 1915, was a Domestic Science major from Hornell, NY. Upon graduation, she returned to her hometown and began private instruction in domestic science, working until 1917 when she married Merrill A. Mosher (Cornell U. ’16) and moved to New Jersey. (Several items of ephemera connected to their courtship can be found within the scrapbook.)
