Description
This scrapbook documents Miriam Elizabeth Shakshober’s freshman year at Skidmore College, during which time she completed work towards a Liberal Studies degree. Comprised of snapshots, programs, notes, correspondence, ephemera and a freshman bib, the scrapbook provides a glimpse of student life during the first year that Skidmore operated as a four-year institution. (Note: 2 programs of musical and dance performances from her sophomore year – 1924 – are pasted down on random pages.)
Local Note
Miriam Elizabeth Shakshober, Class of 1926, was a Liberal Studies major from Bennington, VT and a member of the Eromdiks Board where she was an Assistant Literary Editor (1923-1924). Miriam did not complete her degree, leaving the College after two years (1924) to return to Bennington, where she was a court secretary for the County Clerk’s Office and operated a guest house on South Street for many years.
