Local Note
Genevie Wyckoff, Class of 1941, was a Home Economics major from Oxford, NY, and a member of the College Chorus and Home Economics Club while a student. Upon completion of her degree, she taught Home Economics for several years in the state, first at Rhinebeck High School and later at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. As noted in her obituary she was “a fabulous cook…well known for her Apple Pie Festival pies, her lemon squares and her cucumber sandwiches” as well as “an outstanding bridge player and golfer, [who] had the distinction of scoring a hole-in-one not once, but twice.” She was “fondly referred to amongst family members as the ‘Admiral,’ [as] she was a woman of action, extremely organized and always ready to take charge or give direction.” Her yearbook entry reads: "Gen’s crazy about rings, and has beautiful hands to wear them on. ‘Don’t go to sleep ’till I get back, Joyce!’ Letters from North Carolina and always mail in her box. Gen has a grand disposition and a passion for perfume, ‘Please have some Chanel.’ A dignified entrance at Vespers.”
