Description
This album starts with Joanne (“Joan”) Leman’s high school graduation program and goes on to document her freshman through senior years at Skidmore College, as well as six months post-graduation. It is comprised of ephemera from various college events, as well as newspaper clippings, programs, songs, invitations, cards, and various memorabilia, such as her freshman bib and her graduation tassel.
Local Note
Joanne (“Joan”) Pecare Leman, Class of 1944, was an English major and textile minor from Harrison, NY. She was a member of the “Skidmore News” editorial staff during her junior and senior years, and, during her time at Skidmore, she also contributed to the war effort, serving two years in the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service as a member of the Ground Observer Corps (Recognition Observer). Her yearbook entry reads: "My family’s darling.” Adjusting those Senior portraits. "Phyllis Olga.” "In Harrison we.” Conscientious and sincere. "My lucky seat in Shakespeare.” "Well, I’ll change my room too.” 101° temperature the day she was to have left for Christmas vacation. "I’ll have to write the little kids at camp, they’re so cute.” "Have you done your shorthand?” Photograph album supreme. "Kitten and Carol.”
