Description
This album documents Joanne (“Joan”) Leman’s freshman year at Skidmore College, in particular her roommates from Wilmarth House, 56 Union Ave. It is comprised primarily of photographs, many of which have typed commentary (by Joan) as well as handwritten entries from each of the women depicted. (A typed note from Alumnae Week-End, 1951 is pasted onto the opening pages.)
Local Note
Joanne (“Joan”) Pecare Leman, Class of 1944, was an English major and textile minor from Harrison, NY. She was a member of the “Skidmore News” editorial staff during her junior and senior years, and, during her time at Skidmore, she also contributed to the war effort, serving two years in the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service as a member of the Ground Observer Corps (Recognition Observer). Her yearbook entry reads: "My family’s darling.” Adjusting those Senior portraits. "Phyllis Olga.” "In Harrison we.” Conscientious and sincere. "My lucky seat in Shakespeare.” "Well, I’ll change my room too.” 101° temperature the day she was to have left for Christmas vacation. "I’ll have to write the little kids at camp, they’re so cute.” "Have you done your shorthand?” Photograph album supreme. "Kitten and Carol.”
