Description
This album documents Ellen Gunther’s freshman through senior years at Skidmore College as well as three class reunions (1937, 1949, 1953), and is comprised of newspaper clippings and dozens of snapshots, many with clever, tongue-in-cheek, paper captions which were added in the late 1950s, and most of which were cut out from one issue of “MAD” magazine (No.33 / June, 1957).
Local Note
Ellen (“Ell’n”) Gunther, Class of 1932, was a Physical Education major from Mount Vernon, New York. An active student, especially her senior year, she was a member of Judicial Board; Psychology Club; president, Physical Education Club; treasurer, Outing Club; manager, Tennis; treasurer, Skidmore Hall; and performer (solo dance), Senior Vaudeville. Her yearbook entry, written in the form of a poem reads: “Modernistic design in black and red / The ability to wear anything and to look better than anyone / Sparkling ‘joie de vivre’ of individual quality / Characteristic slowness and grace in movement.”
