SKIDMORE INTERCOM Volume II Number 1 September 25, 1969 ITEMS OF GENERAL INTEREST G. Hinman BARRETT, 81, New York investment broker and a trustee of Skidmore for almost 50 years, died unexpectedly Aug. 27. The social center in the new residence complex named in honor of Mr. BARRETT will be dedicated and formally opened with Wait, Howe, and Rounds Halls next Saturday (Sept. 27) at 2 p.m. m the Center. Mrs. BARRETT and other members of the family are expected to attend. Twenty-six alumnae from areas as widely scattered as Seattle, Tulsa, Houston, St. Louis, Denver, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh were on campus for a three-day workshop on admissions, sponsored by the Admissions Office Sept. 25. Mrs. VOSS explained that alumnae admissions correspondents assist the professional staff of her office by visiting high schools on behalf of the college, consulting guidance counselors, serving as resource people on the local level in answering questions about applying to Skidmore. Her office arranges a workshop on campus every few years to acquaint these alumnae correspondents with latest developments at the college. The duties of the correspondents also include attending College Nights in high schools, interviewing prospective students, entertaining prospective and entering students and their parents, arranging schedules or visits and often, transportation, for admissions staff people when visiting in their areas, and in general acting as public relations representatives for Skidmore. Miss TOWNSEND and Mrs. STEWART assisted Mrs. VOSS in organizing and planning the workshop.
