She also had a research assistantship as administrative assistant to the Dean of the Library School. Foxie hopes to get back to Aspen in the summers to work at the Aspen Institute, as in the past. Betsy Poor Litsas ’69 and Carol Feiker Wetherbee have both been working as supervisors at the VNA in NYC, Betsy full time. Carol keeps busy with her two sons who are growing up quickly. According to an article which appeared in a recent issue of New Woman, Judy Giarratana is “the first totally blind person ever to complete an Outward Bound outdoor fitness course at Hurricane Island, Maine.” “Gritting her teeth, fighting back tears of sheer terror,” she climbed to the top of an 80-foot cliff. “At the end of her ten day ordeal, Giarratana said, ‘I feel really victorious. I felt I had learned a lot about my potential. I felt in incredibly good physical shape. Some of what I learned was that we all have untapped potential.’ ” 69 Jane C. Michelle Cherney Gillett and Chuck have lived in Stockbridge, MA with their daughters Erin, 9, and Lisa, 7 for the past two years. While at Skidmore I roomed with Philippa Greene Mulford who is now living in Clinton, NY, and is a free lance fundraiser for the Arts. We had a delightful time together. I also saw Terri Huxtable who is leaving in February for a 6-month’s stay in Manchester, England, to study their special ed techniques. Liz and Terri and Carol Christensen are still singing together and in the process of cutting their first record. I also had a visit from Ann Evans this summer. She is busy teaching English to 7th and 9th graders in Fairport, NY, and is also active in the teachers union activities and the Junior League. On her way to Wallingford, Ann had planned to have lunch with Cheryl Rogers Thiele but the birth of Cheryl’s third child prevented that. Lynn Doe Hannan and Bleecker Springs were both at the kick-off dinner for the Philadelphia Wide Horizon Program. Lynn is the Southern Field Coordinator of the Program in addition to being our Class President. Bleecker is living in Philadelphia and working at the U. of Pennsylvania. A research paper written by Deborah Carlson Herron, entitled “Quantitative Determinations of Alkylated Purines in DNA,” has been accepted for publication by the scientific journal, “Analytical Biochemistry.” Deborah is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Dept, of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the U. of California, Irvine. Andrea Donkin Gartland wrote to say that Marty Wakeman, who is living in Florence, Italy, had her first individual show at a gallery in NYC and is now represented at two NYC galleries and another in Newport, Rl. “Andy" took an intensive Perspective Drawing course this summer and will take full-time courses this fall. For 2 years now, Betsy L Evans and family have lived in the house they built in Gill, MA. She and Jeff have been teaching nursery school on the bottom floor of the house. Their farming adventures have expanded from chickens and vegetables to 2 acres of cucumbers, an apple orchard and Christmas trees. They birthed their third child on May 6, 1979, at home, with the grandparents in attendance. Bobbsie and David live in Hamden, CT, where she teaches elementary school. Edmund and Corrine Bonynge Green departed last October in their 42' sloop, Ariadne II, for a cruise through the Bahamas. Gail Wilson married Thomas Duggan in July 1976 and they have a daughter, Hannah, born in September 1977. Gail began making dolls with porcelain heads, hands, and feet in 1974, and now spends her summers doing major craft fairs. Marion taught public school music as a supervisor for 3 years before her marriage and later had a piano studio for many years. Lillian Salter Bowie died May 16, 1979. After graduation from Skidmore. Lillian attended the Grand Central School of Art and in 1932 was awarded their medal for exceptional work in class. Agnes Wilson Neubert died on June 22, 1979. A graduate of the Prince School of Retailing at Simmons College, Boston, she worked as Personnel Director at Oppenheim Collins, Buffalo, NY, and was Stylist for Barbizon Lingerie in NYC in the late 30’s. Agnes was active for many years in PTA, Church work, Century Club of Scranton, Friendship House, a volunteer for Citizens of Eisenhower, and also served as President and Secretary of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Skidmore Alumni Club. She is survived by a son, Theodore W. Neubert, of Main Street, Waverly, PA 18471; by a daughter, Mrs. Jerry P. Rosenblatt, Wyomissing, PA; by a brother, Stanley Wilson, and by four grandchildren. 1932 Jean L Allerdice died Thursday, October 4,1979 at Saratoga Hospital. She had served Skidmore College Alumni Association as its Alumnae Secretary from 1938 until 1954. Jean had also taught in the Public School System in Saratoga and was a member of the American Association of Retired Teachers. Survivors include her sister, Doris M. Allerdice ’35 of 185 Circular St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, and by a nephew, Wallace W. Allerdice, also of Saratoga. Gretchen Haigh Larrabure died on June 11,1979 after a long illness. She had been confined to a nursing home for almost a year after a lengthy bout with emphysema and other complications. Gretchen worked as a laboratory technologist for several years in New Jersey. She is survived by her two sons, Rick Larrabure of Chicago, IL, and Garrett Larrabure of Belmont, CA; by her sisters, Constance Haigh Coddington ’32, 15 Taylor Road, Matawan, NY 07747, and Mary Haigh Mehrky ’41. 1933 Eunice Montel Gillespie died on March 24,1979 in Kenilworth, IL. A native of Saratoga Springs, Esther was employed at the NYS Conservation Department for 30 years and also taught music for many years. There are no survivors. 1935 Alla Belle Lewis died on September 12, 1979, and is survived by her niece, Patricia Mary Dimeo. Elizabeth Fisher Smith died July 10, 1979. She worked for many years in Personnel for General Electric Company, and was active in Girl Scouts, Red Cross and County Health. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Francine B. Fairchild of 161 East Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, and by a cousin, Norma Fisher ’53, and one grandchild. 1940 Louise Smith Wilcox died on October 9, 1979 in Wethersfield, CT. A graduate of Columbia-Teacher’s College in 1944, she had served as Staff Nurse for Community Health Association in Boston; surgical head nurse at Post-Graduate Hospital, NYC; Surgical Supervisor and Instructor at Hartford (CT) Hospital; Instructor, Nurses Aides for the American Red Cross, Hartford; and as Staff Nurse at the Hartford VNA until her retirement in 1962. Louise had also been active for Skidmore as an Admissions Correspondent, Club Treasurer, and member of the Club Scholarship Committee. She had more currently worked as a part-time tax consultant for the Connecticut Bank and Trust Co. in Hartford. Louise is survived by her husband, John T. Wilcox of Cedar Trail, 75 Bittersweet Hill, Wethersfield, CT 06109; and by a son, John T. Wilcox, Jr. 1945 Eva Stretcher Leicht died in October 1978, leaving her husband, Walter G. Leicht, of Hungry Hollow Road, Spring Valley, NY 10977, and two children. In the late 1940’s Eva served as Assistant Head Nurse at University Hospital in NYC. 1946 Carolyn Colebum Allen died on September 4, 1979. She is survived by her two sons, John D. Allen of 21 Clinton Avenue, South Norwalk, CT 06854, and Peter Allen; and by her sister, Eleanor Coleburn Zoller ’41. 1956 Irene “Bambi” Brofos Gabriel died on June 7, 1979 of multiple myeloma, at home, in Vence, France, after a long and painful illness. Bambi is survived by three daughters, Claudette, a freshman at Cornell; Suzette, a ballet dancer in Monte Carlo; and Maud, finishing 9th grade in Vence. Following graduation Bambi taught art in the Greenwich, CT school system and later, also, at the Nishimachi Int’l School in Tokyo where the family resided from 1967 through 1972. She became a hospital volunteer upon returning from Japan. Just before her illness, she realized a long-time dream by traveling to Egypt in February 1978. Bambi’s husband, Serge, is on assignment with IBM at the La Gaude Laboratory, and resides at 8, Ave. Marie-Antoinette, 06140 Vence, France. 1972 Amy Elsenberg died in the May 25th American Airlines DC 10 crash in Chicago. She had been engaged in the Head Start program in the Los Angeles area and recently had been selected from 82 applicants to head the research program funded by the government though her employer, NTS Research Corporation of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Amy was returning to her post as research director. According to her father, Mr. Stanford E. Eisenberg, PO Box 426, Chatham, NJ, “her interests had taken a change over recent years, away from pure social work to administrator of HMO organization, and more recently as administrator of a ‘think tank.’ Eventually she was able to blend this new-found interest in research with a concern for children who would be starting their educational life from behind a barrier. She had recently been selected to attend the Graduate Program at the U. of Southern California. Unfortunately, this acceptance arrived after her death. Her direction in graduate school would have been towards a Ph.D. in Education Psychology.” Amy established the Michele Kelly Memorial' Award at Skidmore in memory of her friend.
